It is very common here at the Grove to have to administer various shapes and sizes of pills to both our own dogs and our clients dogs. So, we are always on the hunt for new and innovative ways to disguise medication and make our job of administering the med’s easier for both us and the dogs.
Recently I bought one bag of the Greenies Pill Pockets, the Original Pill Pockets and a jar of the Flavor Doh, all Chicken flavor.
- The Greenie Pill Pockets 30 ct $6.99 Valley Vet Supply
- The Pill Pockets X-Large 30ct $6.99 Entirely Pets.com
- Flavor-Doh 200 gm $8.49 Valley Vet Supply
As far as amount of product for cost – they are all about equal. The Flavor-Doh is a very small little jar, although it looks big in the catalogs. I am not sure what I expected but it is like a small tub of play-doh. You have to scoop out and form it around the pill, which is nice when you have odd shapes or large pills you can pad alittle extra “doh” around the pill. Where as with the Pill Pockets, each little wrap is pre-made so you have what you have unless you combine. Down side to the Flavor-Doh is you have to handle it more but isn’t that messy so not a big downer.
Taste testing – I didn’t personally taste each one. The Dogs tell me they like em in this order:
- Greenies Pill Pockets
- Flavor – Doh
- Original Pill Pockets
What will I buy next time – I will probably buy the Greenies Pill Pockets and the Flavor-Doh. It’s nice to have a couple things up my sleeve for sneaking those nasty med’s!
