2008 Dog Car Safety Award

Bark and Buckle Award

The folks over at Bark Buckle UP have awarded Volvo with the 2008 Dog Safety Award.  Having tried virtually every after market dog barrier for my vehicles, I can say this finally looks like a good product !  Most dog barriers consist of suction cups or tension bars which are easily knocked down.

Bark Buckle UP is pet safety program is traveling nationally to teach and promote pet safety while traveling with our pets. Because more pets now travel with their owners, especially in vehicles, there is a risk to vehicle occupants and others should an accident occur. For first responders called to render aid the challenge of securing a frightened or injured animal, before treating victims, is of great concern.

According to their website, “When driving 35 mph, a 60-pound unrestrained dog can cause an impact of 2,700 pounds, slamming into a car seat, windshield, or passenger.”

Since I don’t have the new Volvo pet restraint set up, I use a crate most of the time.  But must admit, I often allow for my dogs to just jump in and sit in the back seat for our short cruises up to the coffee stand.

The Bark Buckle Up site is well worth a look over for some great Pet Travel Safety tips !
