Cuba Makes Medical History

cubaBark n Blog wrote today about the incredible news breaking from Cuba regarding the use of Homeopathic Nosodes instead of vaccinations to prevent epidemic leptospirosis.

The CDC describes Leptospirosis as

“Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects humans and animals. It is caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospira. In humans it causes a wide range of symptoms, and some infected persons may have no symptoms at all. Symptoms of leptospirosis include high fever, severe headache, chills, muscle aches, and vomiting, and may include jaundice (yellow skin and eyes), red eyes, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or a rash. If the disease is not treated, the patient could develop kidney damage, meningitis (inflammation of the membrane around the brain and spinal cord), liver failure, and respiratory distress. In rare cases death occurs.”

The Finlay Institute in Cuba distributed  5,000,000 doses of the homoeoprophylaxis remedy, but each person received 2 doses, so the coverage was for 2,500,000 people, historically Cuba has struggled to be able to financially afford to vaccinate so many people.  Cuba, as you know, has not been on friendly terms with other nations and suffers many embargos.  This has forced Cuba to develop and rely in many situations on “green medicine” or “traditional medicine”, this side effect of the embargos is perhaps a silver lining.

Early reports from Cuba indicate that this massive distribution of Lepto nosodes has proved to be more effective and successful than previous vaccine distribution!

Why is this important to dogs, you might ask..well, Homeopathic medicine is also available here in the United States.   Although it might appear that Cuba is clearly leading the way, perhaps because the Cuban Ministry of Health issued a directive that Green Medicine be integrated into practices as much as possible many years ago(See Last Chance Dog ) !

Leptospirosis vaccinations are routinely given to your dogs, the DHPPL yearly shot – the “L” is Lepto.  Homeopathic Veterinarians here in the US do not generally recommend Lepto vaccines due the high incidence of adverse reactions, and a few are using nosodes similiar to what the Cuban Ministry of Health used.
