Previously here at The Grove we blogged about the Bark n Buckle Up program and the educational campaigns being introduced to help Pet Owners understand the importance of traveling safely with our 4 legged kids. Sleepypod, of Los Angeles took the time to participate in simulated automobile crashes to test the safety of their Sleepypod pet carriers. Sleepypod’s goal is to meet the same safety standards used for 2-legged children’s car seats.
The Japan Automobile Research Institute tested the Sleepypod and found it withstood crashes of up to 25 mph – The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards mandates that 2-legged children car seats withstand 30 mph crashes.
Sleepypod has modified its design to increase the safety even more and will be re-testing soon to see if they can get to the 30 mph standard.
You can read the full study and watch videos of the test at Sleepypods site.
Sleepypod is definetly moving in the right direction for pet safety but their seats are only designed for little dogs, what about us big dog owners ? Well, hopefully they will get our big guys covered soon!
