While bloggers are ranting about specifics in the bill they don’t like, all seem to agree that it is a move in the right direction; individual responsibility and an acknowledgment that any breed is capable of being aggressive.

Scotland’s new bill will replace previous “dangerous breed” laws ! Yeah, now for America ? Think maybe we can figure out it too ?

Read more on the blogosphere about this new act:

“You love your pet. You take good care of your pet. How would you feel if the government tried to limit your ability to have pets in your life? …Angry? …Scared? …Betrayed? …Well, it’s happening.

Each year, local, state and federal governments propose thousands of laws that would restrict your ability to own pets – to include pets as vital members of your family. While we believe that some regulations are warranted to ensure that pets are well care for, we also believe that responsible pet ownership should be applauded, supported, and encouraged, not limited!

Unfortunately, many government officials don’t understand how their bills might affect you, the responsible pet owner. Furthermore, they may be basing their decisions on propaganda that, while it seems to call for better pet care, is actually part of an agenda to end pet ownership.

Help us protect responsible pet ownership by defending you and your pets against misdirected and poorly crafted legislation.

Support the “Don’t Mess with My Pet™” campaign by becoming a Member of the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC). Your $25 contribution you will help us guard responsible pet ownership…on behalf of you and your non-human family members. As a thank you from us, you’ll receive a free campaign t-shirt.”

How much is that doggie ? Well, if your one of only 100 of the oldest bloodline of Tibetian Mastiffs…..how’s half a million ?

Holy Bat Man! That is a lot of money, now some bloggers and reporters are trashing the purchase, well the purchase amount anyways. But, as a pure bred dog lover I can understand it.

Preservation of a race, preservation of the breed. Those of us who love our breed, who are dedicated to..yes sometimes a slightly neurotic dedication will do such things as buy a dog for half a million dollars.

Obviously the love of the breed for this new owner goes beyond breeding, surely she could of found another suitable male but in her quest to preserve, enrich and maintain a bloodline she ventured into the remote region of Tibet and found one of the last remaining to bring back and ultimately if all goes well… perpetuate.

Good Luck to the new owner and hopefully her efforts of preservation will be rewarded!

A pit bull attacked is not the usual headline, in fact a new blog “Dog Attacks You Never Hear About” argues that pit bull attacks are far outnumbered by other breeds and that the media is biased in it’s reporting. While I don’t like to read about any attack, I have to agree with the blogger. Pit bulls are attacked every time, one pit bull attack attracts a barrage of international media but almost any other dog bite doesn’t merit front page.

But is that the media’s fault ? or us, the consumers of their trade ?

I spent some time scrolling thru the blog and there are several pit bulls maimed by other breeds and lots of lab attacks, a few collies and as the blogger says the blog is to show that all dogs are capable of biting and it is most often due to human error. Either directly by provoking or indirectly by failing to train and socialize youngs dogs or the dogs are victims of abuse and neglect.

The blog is not for the light of heart but it is enlightening….

When they came for the Pit Bulls similar breeds,

When they came for the Commercial Breeders,
I remained silent;
I wasn’t a Commercial Breeder.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out……(Author Unknown)

It’s 2009 , Our country has come full circle with everyone having tolerance and acceptance, we are just 2 seconds from total Utopia?

Well then, what in the world was the KKK doing at this years Westminster?

PETA thought it would be a great idea to imitate the KKK and protest Pure Bred dogs, Dog Ownership and of course those evil dog breeders. PETA equates all forms of dog ownership as slavery so the KKK costumes seemed like a good visual analogy of their goals of eliminating dog slavery in the United States.

I intentionally left out the photos of PETA’s KKK protest, because I find the imagery to be foul and offensive.

Over at the Endangered Owner blog, they equate The Humane Society of the US (HSUS) and PETA’s rhetoric as poison kool aid (thus the anti kool aid logo);

It Looks Good

It Smells Good

It Tastes Great

….but over time it will kill you.

I think that is a brilliant little logo and comparison.

For those of us who DO love our pets and love all dogs it is so easy to be convinced into drinking the PETA Kool Aid and not really reading the label!

Currently, HSUS and PETA are trying to get hundreds of bills passed all over the United States. All these bills are labeled Anti Puppy Mills or Spay/Neuter campagns, which of course look good, smell good and taste great but……what road are they leading us down?

The Anti Puppy Mill bills especially complex me, of course none us want puppy mills! Puppy Mills are evil, yes of course we agree. But, Puppy Millers already know they are doing wrong, Puppy Millers don’t follow ANY laws and ANY law aimed at them is simply going to be avoided as every other law that applies to them!

Are Puppy Mills going to just cease once these supposed bills are passed ? No, they will go further and further underground and become more and more turbulent and evil!

Education is the answer -

Education to all Americans about not buying pets from pet stores, or outside grocery store parking lots !

Education to all Americans about the importance of spaying and neutering your pets!

Education to all Americans about the responsibilities of raising a pet properly.

Education, education, education

Why can’t the time, effort and money spent towards lobbysist and bill creation go to creating 30 second and 60 second Public Service Announcements ? Creating school education campagns to education children about Pet Safety?

Wouldn’t that be better than dressing up like the KKK ?

The Blue Dog project is a series of interactive games and cartoons to illustrate a safe relationship between children and dogs. The project is available in a variety of languages, outside the US you can purchase directly from The Blue Dog Project and within the US you can order via the American Veterinarian Medical Association for a mere $8 !

The Blue Dog website also has a variety of online activities, the project is geared toward children between 3 and 6 years of age.

Great site and project, Kudo’s to the UK development team !

With the upcoming Marley and Me (Christmas Day Premier) will Lab puppies be the next breed dujour ? The American Kennel Club has already created a 15 second, 30 second and 60 second Public Service Announcement to hopefully offset would be movie goers from running out and buying a Lab puppy, which Kudo’s to the AKC of course but…where will people see this PSA ?

Well right here of course, but don’t you think this should air before and after the film at the theater ? and it should also air on future DVD releases ! How do we make this happen ? I think there are alot of dog bloggers out there and if we all start writing about it then word will spread, we could also email our local movie theater’s and ask them specifically to air the AKC’s PSA at their Christmas Day premier !

So, tonite I will email the Olympia Regal Theater and ask them to air this PSA – I will let you know if I get a response !

Sadly, I couldn’t find a Disney PSA for the upcoming Beverly Hills Chihuahua movie ;(

If you would like to email Disney and ask them to offer a PSA about Chihuahua’s here is their email addy:
