From the FDA:

“December 9, 2009 – Sanger, CA– Pet Carousel has initiated a recall of all Pig Ears and all varieties of Beef Hoof pet treats because the products may be contaminated with Salmonella. The problem was discovered after FDA testing found positive results for Salmonella in pig ears and beef hoof products.

These products were recalled because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella can affect both humans and animals. People handling dry pet food and/or pet treats can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the treats or any surfaces exposed to these products.”

Nutro Puppy Food Recall

According to the folks over at Pet Connection Nutro is recalling its Nutro Ultra Puppy 4.5 lb bags and Nutro Natural Choice Chicken, Rice and Oatmeal Puppy Small Bites in 5lb bags.

Apparently Pet Connection bloggers found out about the recall from a Nutro employee twitter feed

“Hi! I’m with Nutro. Re: plastic-During a maint. shutdown, a bump cap inadvertently made its way into our mfg. process equipment….”

Seriously? Twitter to announce a food recall ? I guess it is a quick way to get the word out….I checked the Nutro official website today and I can’t find any information about it. You would think that if your employees are Twittering about it, your webmaster would now and get it on your official site ?
