BeforeGrooming The Doodle -

The Doodle can be one of the most challenging to groom due to the variance in coat texture, type and condition.  The Doodle is also one of the funnest to groom, due to their rapid hair growth one can change styles completely several times a year.

Some Doodle coats are very similar to Poodle coats and require more maintenance and grooming than the Doodle whose coat is more similar to a Labrador.  Most Doodle owners want a long, fluffy and scruffy looking dog which is undeniably cute but also requires more brushing and attention.

It is important that owners are critical with themselves and honestly decide how much time they want to dedicate to daily brushing ?  how often are they wanting a full groom ? are they willing to bring their Doodle in for in between maintenance grooming ?  All of these factors decide on exactly how long and fluffy your Doodle will be.

All Doodle coats do best when properly cleansed, conditioned, hydrated and line brushed - understanding how to line brush and which products will best suit your Doodle is what we do !  Over 25 years of working with show dogs in full coat - WE understand coat care!  And while your Doodle is not a "show dog" - your Doodle is part Poodle or part Cocker or part Setter or ... and those "parts" are what make up the unique coat on your Doodle.   The Doodle Groomer must intimately understand the structure and anatomy of hair and the variance of that structure in different breeds.

We understand Doodles and groom several everyday.  We also understand Doodle owners love to be a part of the Doodles Grooming Experience and we offer Private Grooming Sessions by appointment.  Feel free to call us about your Doodle needs 360-352-1322

Doodle grooming prices are based on length and type of coat, size of doodle and frequency of grooming.

Doodle & Poodle pricing is broke down into 3 length categories -

Short Coat Under a #5 blade (1/4" length)

Average 1/4" to 1" in length

Full Coated 1" and longer (all full coats are additional $15 due to additional time for drying and brushing)

We have a wonderful coat length chart in our office we can show you.

Your dogs first line of defense is its skin.  The skin is the largest organ your dog has, ensuring its health and vitality is our goal in helping your dog live life beautifully.  Grooming is so much more than just shaving or scissoring a dog, the bathing and finish work done on your dog's coat is the most important piece in keeping your dog's coat healthy.

Animals instinctively seek Mud therapy to heal their aliments. Galen, the Greek Physician and Philosopher was the first to record the use of clay on sick and injured animals.
Clay when moistened with water makes Mud. Naturally absorbent and extremely gentle on the system; cleansing, detoxifying and healing with mud is as old as man-kind. Many people maintain health with therapeutic mud baths at resorts and spas.

We are honored to be able to provide these same therapeutic mud baths to our canine guests that humans have had access to for hundreds of years.  The mud treatments are applied after a through shampooing opening up the hair follicles.  The hair back brushed and the mud is applied line by line with a soft paint brush directly to the skin.  After complete coverage, the mud is massaged for at least twenty minutes then rinsed with our hydrosurge mixing warm water and conditioner to seal and close the hair follicles.

BeforeA puppies first groom is an important day! The first few grooms can set a lifetime of habits, expectations and impact your puppies temperament, confidence and well being.

Patience is key when working with puppies, it is vital to take breaks and engage in meaningful cuddles and positive reinforcements.

Puppies should begin visiting the groomer as soon as they finish their puppy shots.  The first trip should just be a visit with a soft, easy bath, a towel dry on the grooming table and maybe a few nails done.  This first trip is more about acclimation and introduction to Groom Training than about a pretty bath or groom job.

The groomer should talk to the parents about establishing a groom training routine, show the owner the appropriate brush and encourage owner to massage the puppies feet everyday to acclimate them to feet grooming.

A puppy who is expected to grow into an adult dog with long coat and grooming demands should maintain a regular grooming schedule thru puppyhood, ideally every 4 weeks during training then transition to every 6 weeks.

Regular trips to a groomer who is patient and attentive can help your puppy grow into a well adjusted, healthy and beautiful dog.

The gorgeous puppy featured in this article is "Lucy" whose parents have done everything right by beginning her early in doggy daycare and regular grooming!  Lucy loves her groomer and her groomer loves her!

The Portuguese Water Dog has several different coat/hair types, Sherman here is the Curly variety, very curly! We had a blast giving Sherman a custom clip; poodle clip on the feet to help keep some of the dirt outside that Sherman likes to track in the house, a heavy frontal crown as per breed standard but modified the muzzle trim to keep his lovely snout a bit dryer and used a puppy clip on the body for ease of care.

Lexie Before GroomingSometimes when the mats turn to dred locks …You just gotta start over ! Lexie’s winter coat was beyond repair so Mom and I just decided that it was time to start over! Fresh starts are nice sometimes and the good thing about hair is most times it just grows back ! Lexie got a brand new red coat and she doesn’t seem to mind her recent shave! So, if at times the task is too much…Just Start Over ..It’s all good
